911 GT3 90 F. A. Porsche: A Collector’s Tribute to F. A. Porsche’s Design Legacy (2026)

The Porsche 911 GT3 90 F. A. Porsche: A Tribute to a Visionary Designer and His Legacy

A collector's dream, a design enthusiast's delight. Porsche is celebrating the life and work of Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, the man behind the iconic 911, with a limited-edition commemorative model that will stir emotions and spark debates. But here's the twist: this car is not just a tribute; it's a unique collaboration with his son, Mark Porsche, who ensures his father's spirit lives on.

The 911 GT3 90 F. A. Porsche is a special edition inspired by a G-Series 911 driven by F. A. Porsche himself in the 1980s. This exclusive model, limited to 90 units, will be crafted by Porsche Sonderwunsch, with one already claimed by Mark Porsche. Buyers will have the opportunity to personalize their own piece of automotive history, making each car as unique as the designer it honors. And the excitement doesn't end there!

F. A. Porsche, born on December 11, 1935, was a visionary designer who believed that form follows function. This philosophy is evident in the legendary 911 and the design studio he co-founded with his brother, Porsche Design. The studio's creations, like the Chronograph I wristwatch and P'8478 sunglasses, became modern design icons. And now, on what would have been his 90th birthday, Porsche is paying homage to this influential figure.

The commemorative model, the 911 GT3 90 F. A. Porsche, is a collaboration between Mark Porsche and the Sonderwunsch experts. It incorporates personal touches from F. A. Porsche's life, such as the F. A. Greenmetallic paint, reminiscent of his own 911's Oakgreenmetallic shade. The interior features the F. A. Grid-Weave fabric on the seat centers, echoing the pattern of his favorite jacket. And this is where it gets personal...

Mark Porsche shares, "My father's favorite jackets had this unique pattern. They were as much a part of my childhood as his pencil, pipe, and ashtray, and they always reminded me of his home office." This emotional connection adds a layer of depth to the car's design, making it more than just a collector's item.

The 911 GT3 90 F. A. Porsche will be available for order from April 2026, complete with an exclusive edition of the Chronograph 1 watch and a special weekender bag. Production will begin in late 2026, allowing buyers to finalize their individual configurations. Based on the 911 GT3 with Touring Package, this car boasts a powerful naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine with 375 kW (510 PS) and 450 Nm of torque.

The exterior paint, F. A. Greenmetallic, is a tribute to the Oakgreenmetallic shade of F. A. Porsche's 911. The Sport Classic wheels, painted in satin-gloss black, add a touch of classic elegance, reminiscent of the Fuchs rims. And the galvanised gold-plated badge on the boot lid proudly displays the '90 F. A. Porsche' logo.

Inside, the Chalk Beige decorative stitching and F. A. Grid-Weave fabric on the seat centers create a warm ambiance, complementing the Truffle Brown Club Leather upholstery. This fabric, inspired by F. A. Porsche's favorite jacket, is also found in the glove box, board briefcase, and luggage compartment mat, tying the entire design together.

The car's instrument panel features a Sport Chrono watch based on the original Chronograph I, made exclusively for F. A. Porsche. The open-pore walnut plywood gear knob bears his signature, and a gold-plated plaque on the dashboard identifies each car as one of the 90 limited-edition collector's items.

Buyers of this special edition will receive a unique Chronograph 1 watch. Its vintage look is achieved with a luminous material on the hands and indices, resembling aged radium or tritium. The historic Porsche Design logo on the bracelet and crown, along with F. A. Porsche's initials above the day and date display, pay homage to his personal chronograph. The rotor, shaped and colored like the car's wheels, and the laser-engraved signature and limited-edition number on the case back, make this watch a true collector's piece.

The watch can be worn on a black-coated titanium bracelet or a leather strap, matching the car's interior. The quick-change system allows for easy strap swaps without tools, ensuring a seamless transition from the road to the wrist.

This special wristwatch is based on the 'Chronograph 1 – 1972 Limited Edition', released in 2022 to celebrate Porsche Design's 50th anniversary. It replicates the original design and incorporates modern technology. The story behind it reveals Porsche Design's first order from Porsche AG: a watch for deserving employees and anniversary celebrants. F. A. Porsche's design, inspired by the 911's dashboard, resulted in the world's first black wristwatch, a symbol of his functional design philosophy.

The exclusive package also includes a weekender bag, crafted from the same Truffle Brown leather as the car's interior and featuring Chalk Beige decorative stitching. The bag's front pocket lining uses the F. A. Grid-Weave fabric, while the main compartment is lined with microfibre. The anniversary logo, matching the car's badge, is embroidered on the outer pocket.

The anniversary also marks the return of another iconic F. A. Porsche design: the Porsche Junior sled. This bowl-shaped sled, popular in the 1960s, is now reimagined in carbon fiber with a Kevlar core, making it lightweight and stable. Limited to 90 units, it comes in F. A. Greenmetallic and features the F. A. Grid-Weave fabric on the seat cushion.

F. A. Porsche's influence extends beyond the automotive world. His design studio, now known as Studio F. A. Porsche, continues to create timeless designs, staying true to his functional design philosophy. This legacy ensures that his vision lives on, not just in the cars that bear his name but in the hearts of enthusiasts worldwide.

And this is the part most people miss: F. A. Porsche's impact on design is not limited to his iconic creations. His philosophy, his attention to detail, and his personal touches continue to inspire and shape the work of designers and enthusiasts alike. So, what do you think? Is this commemorative model a fitting tribute to a design legend, or is there more to the story? Share your thoughts in the comments below, and let's keep the conversation going!
