Chipotle's Massive Expansion: 350 New Restaurants in 2026! | Fast Food News (2026)

Chipotle is poised to expand its presence dramatically, with plans to launch nearly one new restaurant each day throughout 2026, a thrilling prospect for fans of this beloved fast-casual dining chain.

The announcement regarding these new openings coincided with the company's decision to implement another price increase, which has left many customers pondering the implications.

According to Chipotle, which is famous for its customizable burrito bowls, they aim to open a total of 350 new locations in 2026. This comes on the heels of their achievement in 2025, when they successfully inaugurated 334 restaurants.

During a recent earnings call on February 3, CEO Scott Boatwright expressed confidence in the company's growth trajectory, stating, "In 2025, we established 334 new restaurants with great success. We were ready with the right teams and development strategies to handle this expansion. Now, we're planning to build 350 more this year, which means almost one new Chipotle will be opening every single day."

Looking ahead, Chipotle has set an ambitious long-term goal of reaching a staggering 7,000 locations across North America. As part of their strategic plan announced in April 2025, they indicated that up to 345 new restaurants could be launched by 2026, with at least 80% of these featuring the highly popular Chipotlane—Chipotle’s drive-thru service designed for quick pick-up.

Specifically, Florida has already welcomed four new Chipotle locations by the end of December 2025, with two establishments popping up in New Port Richey and Oldsmar around mid-December, followed by two more in Bradenton and Largo just before the month concluded.

However, amidst this exciting expansion, customers should also brace for price hikes. During the February 3 earnings call, it was disclosed that Chipotle would raise menu prices by approximately 1% to 2% as the company expects to face financial pressures in 2026. These pressures stem from the reality that they are absorbing some costs while inflation continues to rise, ultimately leading to a need for price adjustments.

Chipotle has previously raised prices, like in December 2024, when they increased rates by 2% due to mounting operational expenses. Earlier in March 2025, Boatwright had assured patrons that prices would remain stable despite rising costs for essential ingredients such as avocados, tomatoes, and limes—largely affected by tariffs on imports.

Interestingly, Boatwright mentioned that the core customer demographic, which includes younger consumers earning over $100,000 and those interested in high-protein diets, may not be as deterred by price increases. "Our guests tend to be younger, often higher earners, and digitally savvy. Their values align closely with our commitment to clean food and wholesome ingredients, reflecting the way they prefer to eat," he remarked.

Additionally, Chipotle recently rolled out its inaugural high-protein menu, which debuted on December 23. This innovative menu features several options designed to cater to health-conscious diners:

  • Double High Protein Bowl: Packed with 81g of protein, this bowl combines double Adobo Chicken, white rice, black beans, fajita veggies, fresh tomato salsa, Monterey Jack cheese, and extra romaine lettuce, totaling 760 calories.
  • High Protein-High Fiber Bowl: Offering 46g of protein and 14g of fiber, this bowl includes Adobo Chicken, brown rice, black beans, fajita veggies, roasted chili-corn salsa, tomato salsa, and romaine lettuce, coming in at 540 calories.
  • High Protein-Low Calorie Salad: This salad provides 36g of protein and 10g of fiber while featuring Adobo Chicken, Supergreens lettuce mix, fajita veggies, tomato salsa, and guacamole for just 470 calories.
  • Double High Protein Burrito: With 79g of protein, this burrito includes double Adobo Chicken, salsa, fajita veggies, cheese, and romaine lettuce, totaling 840 calories.
  • Adobo Chicken Taco: A soft tortilla filled with 15g of protein from Adobo Chicken, fajita veggies, tomato salsa, cheese, and lettuce for only 190 calories.
  • High Protein Cup with Adobo Chicken: This side offers 32g of protein in a 4-ounce serving of flavorful Adobo Chicken, perfect as a snack or an additional protein boost for any meal.

The menu boasts items that range from 15g to an impressive 81g of protein each, underscoring Chipotle’s commitment to offering nutrient-rich options. Notably, during the introduction of the high-protein menu, there was a significant 35% increase in the uptake of protein-rich items.

Boatwright concluded by expressing confidence that their core customers are not primarily seeking lower-priced menu items, suggesting that the focus remains on quality and nutritional value rather than mere affordability.

Reflecting on these developments, what do you think about Chipotle's expansion strategy and the accompanying price increases? Are you excited about their new offerings, or concerned about the rising costs? We’d love to hear your thoughts!
