Everton press ahead in talks to sign a high-profile South American forward valued at up to £40m for 2026
Everton have reportedly begun formal inquiries about a South American striker who could command as much as £40 million next year.
Moyes on Everton’s European ambitions
After their midweek win over Bournemouth, David Moyes spoke with renewed ambition about Everton’s upcoming clash with Nottingham Forest. He emphasized a realistic approach while expressing the desire for Everton to be competing in Europe. Speaking to reporters, he said: “If we can win again against Nottingham Forest, it will push us right back into contention, but we must also keep an eye on the lower end of the table to widen the gap from the worst positions.”
With the Premier League table tightly packed, Everton’s position looks promising heading into the weekend. They sit 10th, just three points away from the top four, meaning a successful weekend could dramatically alter their standing.
A European push would require reinforcing in January, and The Friedkin Group has already identified several targets. Recent reports indicate Everton have entered the race to sign Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid as he seeks to secure a place in England head coach Thomas Tuchel’s squad by returning to the Premier League.
Alongside Gallagher, Everton are pursuing a striker to address Thierno Barry’s slow start and Beto’s ongoing struggles. The club is reportedly turning its attention to Yuri Alberto as the potential answer up front.
Everton reportedly inquire about Yuri Alberto
TeamTalk reports that Everton have lodged an inquiry to sign Yuri Alberto in 2026. The 24-year-old Corinthians forward could command a transfer fee as high as £40m, but his return to Brazil in 2023 has reignited his stock. South American analyst Nathan Joyes called Alberto “superb” last year, and the forward followed up with a strong season in Brazil, tallying 18 goals in 54 appearances across all competitions.
If Everton can land the Brazilian striker, the move could be justified by his recent form and the potential to fuel a late-season European push. A £40m outlay might look prudent if Alberto helps the club climb into European contention this term.
