Gloucester's historic city center is getting a much-needed boost in security as cameras are installed to catch drivers who ignore traffic bans. The restrictions, which mean people cannot drive through sections of Eastgate Street, Westgate Street, Northgate Street, and Southgate Street without a permit, are temporary but could remain in place until July 4, 2027. While permits have been issued to traders in the area to avoid fines, drivers caught breaking the rules will be fined £70, reduced to £35 if paid within 21 days. Gloucester City councillor Rebecca Trimnell expressed her delight at the installation of cameras, stating that it will help tackle individuals who feel entitled to park on the gate streets in the evening and use them as through roads.
