Talk about a nail-biting moment! Rams linebacker Jared Verse pulled off an incredible play against the Falcons, blocking a field goal and returning it for a touchdown. But, as he celebrated, a different kind of fear struck him: a penalty for taunting. He knew he was taking a risk. And this is the part most people miss...
Verse's daring move transformed a potential three-score game into a nail-biting one-score game. But what happened during his touchdown run? He flashed two fingers towards the Atlanta sideline.
“I was scared as [expletive],” Verse confessed to reporters on Thursday. His biggest fear? The reaction from his coach, Sean McVay.
“I was like Sean’s going to kill me,” Verse admitted. “I was like, ‘It’s bad.’ I got to the end zone and was like, ‘They’re not going to review it?’”
Here's the kicker: taunting fouls aren't reviewable. Even if the officials had caught it, the touchdown would have stood. The worst-case scenario? A 15-yard penalty added to the extra point attempt.
But here's where it gets controversial... While the officials missed the taunt during the game, the NFL likely didn't. Verse is probably facing a fine.
What do you think? Was Verse's celebration worth the risk? Do you think the NFL is too strict on taunting? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
