Kelsey Plum's Unrivaled Journey: A Second Chance on the Court
It's a tale of missed opportunities and second chances: WNBA star Kelsey Plum is ready to light up the court in the upcoming season of Unrivaled, a 3-on-3 basketball league.
Last year, Plum, a key player for the Los Angeles Sparks, made the tough decision to sit out the inaugural Unrivaled season. This was a significant blow to the league, especially after Caitlin Clark also declined a lucrative offer.
Plum explained her choice, saying she needed more personal time during the offseason. The league was understanding, and she wished everyone the best.
Now, she's back! Plum will join forces with Aliyah Boston and Natasha Cloud on Phantom BC, and she's clearly thrilled about the opportunity. She's looking forward to improving her game and embracing the challenge of the 3-on-3 format.
"Last year obviously I wanted to play. It just wasn't the right time for me personally, but definitely supported from afar," Plum shared. "I got the opportunity to say yes this year and I'm super excited about it. I'm super excited … excited for the opportunity to get better."
Plum highlighted the league's dedication to player well-being, resources, and attention to detail.
But here's where it gets controversial...
There were rumors that Unrivaled was eager to bring in Caitlin Clark again, but she will be focusing on her recovery from an injury.
Plum and Clark recently crossed paths during Team USA practice, showcasing their skills.
Plum is eager to compete, adapt, and grow as a leader in the 3-on-3 format.
"Being able to compete with the lights on, that to me is very exciting," Plum said. "Figuring out new teammates and just adjusting, adapting, growing as a leader. Three-on-three is fun, you can’t hide. In my experience in the Olympics and stuff, I really enjoy just going matchup-to-matchup, so for me it’s very exciting.”
