Portland Shooting: 2 Injured, Mayor Demands ICE Halt Operations (2026)

A shocking incident unfolded in Portland, Oregon, leaving two individuals injured in a shooting involving a federal agent. The mayor of Portland has since called for a halt to immigration enforcement operations while the investigation is underway.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has provided some details, stating that the shooting occurred during a "targeted" stop of a vehicle allegedly linked to the Tren de Aragua gang. The passenger was reportedly the intended target.

According to DHS, when the Border Patrol agents identified themselves, the driver of the vehicle attempted to run over the law enforcement officers, leading to a defensive shot being fired by an agent. The driver then fled the scene with the passenger.

Portland Police Chief Bob Day acknowledged during a press conference that local officials are still in the dark about the specifics of the case, but an investigation is actively underway.

"We are calling on ICE to cease all operations in Portland until a comprehensive and independent investigation can be conducted," Mayor Keith Wilson stated during a press conference on Thursday night. "Our community deserves answers and clarity."

Mayor Wilson expressed skepticism towards the federal government's version of events, saying, "We know what they say happened, but we can no longer take their word for it."

The shooting took place around 2:18 p.m. local time on Thursday, as confirmed by officials. Portland police officers responded to a call for help and found a man and a woman with apparent gunshot wounds.

"Officers confirmed the involvement of federal agents in the shooting," the Portland Police Department stated, emphasizing that Portland Police were not part of the incident.

Police officers provided immediate aid, applying tourniquets and calling for emergency medical services. The two victims were then transported to a hospital, but their current conditions remain unknown.

The shooting occurred approximately 3 miles away from where the victims were found, near Adventist Health, a medical office, on Southeast Main Street. The victims managed to drive themselves to an apartment complex in the Northeast 146th Avenue and East Burnside Street area, where the injured man sought help.

The FBI was seen responding to the shooting scene, with Portland police providing assistance.

Amid the ongoing investigation, Oregon Governor Tina Kotek has called for transparency from the federal government.

"Our priority is a thorough investigation, not more detentions. We demand transparency and cooperation from the federal government with Portland Police and the Multnomah County DA. We need to rebuild trust with our nation's government," Kotek emphasized.

Mayor Wilson described the incident as "deeply troubling," urging residents to remain calm and united during this challenging time.

"Portland stands against violence. We respond with clarity, unity, and a commitment to justice. We must protect our city together," he added.

Multnomah County District Attorney Nathan Vasquez expressed his concern, stating, "We are here to ensure a comprehensive investigation, preserve evidence, and uncover the facts."

This story is still evolving, and we will provide updates as more information becomes available.
