"Maintain my name, my baby," Siew says, emphasizing the personal connection she has with the restaurant. Sri Pinang has been a part of her life for over 35 years, and it's been a joy to witness the love and appreciation from her customers.
Siew shares heartwarming anecdotes, like a couple who started dating at her restaurant, got married, had children, and then those children grew up to bring their own partners to Sri Pinang. Another family made it a tradition to celebrate their grandmother's birthday at the restaurant, and Siew cherishes the bond she formed with them.
"They still remember me, they call me aunty," she says with a smile. "It's a beautiful feeling to be accepted as family."
Telling her loyal customers about the closure was an emotional moment, but family always comes first. Siew hopes that one day, they might reopen, but for now, her husband's health takes priority.
"Health is wealth," she says. "We need to ensure he recovers fully before planning our next steps."
Kun's passion for cooking started at a young age, and he dedicated himself to mastering various cooking techniques, always using fresh ingredients and staying true to the authentic Malaysian flavors.
"He loves the challenge of perfecting dishes," Siew explains. "Cooking is his passion, and he never stops learning."
For Siew, Sri Pinang has been more than just a business; it's been her home away from home. She spent most of her days there, from early mornings to late nights, and the thought of closing it down is bittersweet.
"I'll miss this spot dearly. Sri Pinang has been a part of my life for so long, and I've poured my heart into it."
And this is the part most people miss: the impact a small business can have on a community. Sri Pinang has been a gathering place, a home-away-from-home for many, and its closure leaves a void that can't be easily filled.
