The Vivo X300 Pro: A Phone Camera That's a Step Up
The Vivo X300 Pro is a smartphone that's making waves in the world of photography. With its impressive camera setup, including a 200-megapixel sensor and a detachable telephoto lens, it's a device that promises to elevate your photography game. But is it worth the hype?
In this review, we'll take a closer look at the Vivo X300 Pro's camera capabilities and see how it stacks up against other devices on the market. We'll also explore the phone's other features and see if it's a device that's worth considering for your next smartphone purchase.
A Camera Setup to Die For
The Vivo X300 Pro's camera setup is a photographer's dream. With a triple rear camera system that includes a 200-megapixel sensor, you'll have plenty of resolution to work with. And the detachable telephoto lens gives you the flexibility to zoom in on distant subjects without sacrificing image quality.
A Familiar Face
The Vivo X300 Pro's camera setup isn't entirely unique. A few weeks ago, I reviewed the Oppo Find X9 Pro, which also features a 200-megapixel sensor and a detachable telephoto lens. But the Vivo X300 Pro has an extra feature that the Oppo Find X9 Pro lacks: a camera grip. This grip not only feels great in your hand but also adds a handy shutter button and boosts battery life.
A Compact Digital Camera in Disguise
The camera grip on the Vivo X300 Pro turns the phone into a compact digital camera. It's a feature that's also found on the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, which has a similar grip that enhances the phone's photography capabilities.
Other Specs to Consider
The Vivo X300 Pro also boasts a 50-megapixel main camera, a 50-megapixel ultrawide lens, a MediaTek Dimensity 9500 processor, and a 6,500-mAh battery. These specs make it a powerful device that can handle a variety of tasks, not just photography.
Pricing and Availability
Vivo hasn't announced the full UK pricing for the phone yet, but it's expected to be around £1,099 (roughly $1,460). However, the phone won't be sold in the US.
Early Test Images
I've had the opportunity to test the Vivo X300 Pro's camera, and I'm impressed with the results. Here are some of my early test images:
- Danner boots on a rainy Scottish street - The colors are spot on, and the details from the 50-megapixel sensor are pin-sharp.
- Baked goods - The warmth captured in this shot, and the fine details on the icing of the bun in the foreground look fantastic.
- Elves wearing North Face coats - The Vivo X300 Pro captured these well.
- Festive-looking building - The fine details look clear, and the phone worked hard to keep that bright sky under control.
- Telephoto zoom lens - The details hold up well, though it's clear there's been some software processing to preserve sharpness and reduce noise.
- Ultrawide lens - Switching from the wide to the ultrawide lens, it's clear how much more it fits into the frame, but there's a noticeable shift in exposure.
The Verdict
The Vivo X300 Pro is a powerful smartphone with a camera setup that's a step up from the competition. While it may not be the perfect device for everyone, it's a device that's worth considering if you're looking for a smartphone that can handle photography and other tasks with ease.
